André van Zyl

André may be a new kid on the block in the professional gospel music scene, but has been leading worship in churches and on conferences since 1996. The South African born singer/songwriter/worshipleader has been living in the Netherlands since 2002, where he works part time as a health professional, and as a local student worker for the Navigators (an international ministry).

It’s not without reason that André has waited until now for the release of his first studio album. “About eight years ago I prayed that God would only lead me into a music career if He felt that I am up for the task. In some way, I don’t think that I waited until now to start with a project, but that God waited until now. Thinking about the time that I prayed that prayer, I know for certain that I wasn’t strong enough emotionally to handle the pressure and things like pride,” says André. His desire to see others get to know God in a personal way and to grow in that relationship is the motivation behind the man and the music. “I want to grow in my own relationship with God, and I want to see others grow. That’s why I do what I do! Not only in music, but in the work that I do with the students as well. Life doesn’t end with receiving Christ as our Savior. Life starts there.”
The new CD will have six original English songs, and one worship song translated into Dutch. The musical style is a mix between pop and rock, leaning a bit more towards rock. It might sound like a weird combination, but that is what makes it special and gives it a unique sound. The tunes are fresh and catches on very quickly, which can leave a tune hanging for days.
